Santa Cruz Sentinel (November 23, 1892)The Late W.S. Waldron
The remains of the late Westbrook S. Waldron were interred on November 9th in Mountain View Cemetery Oakland. The deceased was born in St. Johns New Brunswick, of American parents, who happened to be there on a visit. He was in his sixty ninth year. When the war broke out he was engaged in business in Baltimore, Maryland, and went in the 31st new York Infantry, Colonel Pratt, as sutler. At the first battle of Bull Run he acted as Lieutenant at the request of the Colonel, some of the officers being absent. In 1862 he came to California. For a time he mined at Nez Perces, Oregon, success rewarding his efforts. He visited Santa Cruz in 1865, remaining some months. The deceased was a man of exemplary habits, honest and industrious. He leaves a mother in Allston, Mass., over 90 years of age, beside a sister residing with her, and has a brother in Idaho, who is an attorney. He leaves a son, who is part proprietor and the business manager of the Sentinel, and a daughter. According to an Oakland ordinance the remains can not be removed in less than one year. At the expiration of that time the son will have the remains interred in San Francisco, where he owns a plot in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, and where the wife of the deceased is buried.
