Well Known Resident of the Salsipuedes District Passed Away Last Night
George Vaughan, the well known resident of the Salsipuedes district, passed away last night at his home on the Gally farm after an illness of three weeks. Mr. Vaughan was a victim of palsy, the first attack coming about nine years ago. When first stricken suddenly about three weeks ago and he never recovered from the attack. All that could possible be exerted in his behalf was done for him in vain and he passed away last night in the presence of the members of his family. He was an honored member of the Masonic order and will be buried tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence under the auspices of that order. The interment will be made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
The deceased was a native of Virginia and was aged about 70 years. In 1869 he came to the west and settled first near Hollister where he conducted a cattle ranch with great success until 1901 when he removed to the Pajaro Valley. He had lived here for the past 12 years and was regarded as one of the leading citizens of the valley. He was highly esteemed by all that knew him for his honesty, integrity and other true manly qualities and his death will cause sorrow in a wide circle. He joined the Masonic order in Gilroy in 1870, but became affiliated with the Watsonville lodge upon his arrival here in 1901.
He is survived by a widow and a son H.W. Vaughan, the local automobile man.
