Comrade Lewis M. Tucker, corner Lighthouse avenue and Oregon street, enlisted in the Civil War at the age of 16 years with the consent of his mother and was with Company C, 46th Missouri Regiment.

In conversation he states that he was not in actual combat, but saw considerable fighting. "Just my luck not to be where the fighting was," he says.

After the war he traveled west and was in California in '87, finally coming to Santa Cruz, to make his home in 1912. He is in love with Santa Cruz and has no desire to move elsewhere.

Louis M. Tucker Dies Suddenly

Louis M. Tucker died suddenly at his home at 134 Lighthouse avenue. He was 81 years old and a native of Missouri. His home has been in this city for 18 years.

Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Obedience Tucker of this city, and several children residing elsewhere in the state. Funeral services will be held at the Chase mortuary Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. The body will be cremated in the Santa Cruz crematory.

Last Rites for Louis M. Tucker

Funeral services for Louis M. Tucker were held yesterday at the chapel of Chase's mortuary.

The rites were according to the ritual of the Daughters of the Civil War Veterans and Wallace Reynolds post G.A.R.

The hymns were "Lead Kindly Light" and "Some Time We'll Understand" by Mrs. Joseph Riordan and Mrs. Abra Budworth.

Cremation was at the Santa Cruz crematory.

Louis M Tucker was born March 15, 1849 in Missouri. In 1865 he enlisted as a Private in Company C 46th MO infantry. He later affiliated with the GAR.

While in Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo County he was a farmer. He moved to Santa Cruz where he died on Oct 23, 1930 at his home. His cremated remains were shipped to San Luis Obispo and interred in the IOOF cemetery Peace Circle, Center lot 226. He has a Military headstone in 4' x 8' concrete slab.
