To Celebrate Golden Wedding

A family reunion will be held in honor of the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob F. Trostel next Sunday, Oct 30 at their home on Seventh Avenue.

Jacob Trostel married Marie Agatha Koch in Denver, Colo. in 1877. After their marriage they went to Portland Ore. spending a few years there before coming to California in 1883. They resided a few years in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara before making their home for the past thirty five years in Santa Cruz. They are the parents of six children, all of whom will be present with their families for the happy event.

Friends wishing to greet them will be welcome between the hours of three and four.

Mrs. Trostel is a younger sister of Alois Koch of Denver, and Mrs. Josephine Fahner of Davenport, Iowa.

Mr. Trostel is a veteran of the Civil War and a member of Wallace Reynolds Post of the G.A.R. He enlisted as a volunteer in Company D, 21st Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry, in April 1861, and was with the commissary department at Nashville, Tenn., until the end of the war.

GAR Well Represented

Jacob Trostel, Seventh Avenue and Lower Capitola Road, was born in Germany, November 1, 1843, and enlisted in the 21st Pennsylvania infantry, company D on April 17, 1861, just five days after the confederacy opened war by bombarding Fort Sumter.

Mr. Trostel enlisted for 90 days. He was active in several skirmishes and crossed the Potomac several times. At the expiration of the 90 day period he sought to re enlist, but was not taken on account of bronchial trouble that had developed from exposure in crossing the Potomac. He served after that in the commissary department until the close of the war.

Jacob Trostel Civil War Vet, Aged 88, is Dead

Jacob Trostel, who enlisted in the Union army just five days after the Confederacy declared war by firing of Fort Summter died last night at his home on the lower Capitola Road and Seventh avenue, after a five month illness.

He was born in Germany on November 1, 1842, and was in his 19th year when he enlisted in Philadelphia on April 17, 1861. His enlistment was for 90 days. During that period he developed pneumonia from crossing the Potomac several times, and when he attempted to re enlist he was assigned to the commissary department in which he served until the end of the war. He has been a member of Wallace Reynolds post when the two old G.A.R. organizations of Santa Cruz were combined in 1895.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Agatha Trostel; by four daughters, Mr. D. N. Beauregard of Santa Cruz, Mrs. Josephine Reese, and Mrs. L.A. Sprague of Modesto, and Mrs. J.R. Brown of Salinas, and by two sons A.J. Trostel of King City, and J.F. Trostel of Santa Cruz, and five grand children.

Rosary for Mr. Trostel will be said tomorrow night at 8 o'clock and mass at 7:30 Monday morning at Holy Cross church. Funeral services will be from Wessendorf mortuary at 11 o'clock Monday morning.

Services For Jacob Trostel

Funeral services for Jacob Trostel were held yesterday. A requiem mass was celebrated early and at 11 o'clock at the chapel of Wessendorf's mortuary as Mr. Trostel was a veteran of the civil war and a member of the Wallace Reynolds post G.A.R. The Daughters of Civil War Veterans also read their services and members of the Wallace Reynolds post, G.A.R. and Wallace Reynolds W.R.C. were also present.

The religious rites at the chapel were conducted by Rev. Father Casey of Holy Cross church. The burial was at the Odd Fellows cemetery.
