Carlos Touregney Passed Away Today

At the advanced age of 77 years, from complications due to his age, Carlos Touregney, a well known resident of this city, passed away at his residence, No. 154 Second street, today.

Both Mr. Touregney and his estimable wife have been invalids for some time past, and their condition caused concern to all who knew them. Mr. Touregney, a native of Canada, was an old time resident here and a man highly respected and esteemed. He was a very pleasant, kindly old gentleman, and his patriarchal appearance, coupled with his affability and courtesy made him many friends.

A few weeks back his beloved wife was stricken down with paralysis, and this misfortune, coupled with constantly increasing ill health, undoubtedly hastened the old man's death.

The deceased originally came to Watsonville from San Francisco, where he conducted a shoe making establishment for deformed feet. He has been a resident of the valley for about twenty years, owning a small ranch in the Calabasas section until some years ago, when he sold his ranch and retired, moving to Watsonville, where he resided up to the time of his death. He was a veteran of the Civil War, entering the service from the state of Vermont. While in New Orleans during the war he was taken with a severe illness from which he never fully recovered. He was also a member of high intellectual ability, and had a fad, the discovery of perpetual motion, to which he devoted nearly all his time, during his later years.

Beside the widow, deceased leaves two brothers, Dennis Touregney, of Wisconsin; and Nere Touregney, of the Province of Quebec, Canada.

The funeral will be held from the Burland Undertaking Parlors, East Lake avenue, on next Friday morning (March 7, 1919) at ten o'clock. Interment at I.O.O.F. cemetery.
