Charles Titterington Loses Leg
A Result of a Balky Horse at the Railroad Wharf Wednesday

Charles Titterington who works for W.M. Elsom, broke his leg as the result of a fall from his ice wagon on the railroad wharf Wednesday morning. A balky horse was the cause of the trouble.

Mr. Titterington, who is well along in years was taken to the Santa Cruz Sanitarium where the surgeons found a compound fracture of the femur extending to the knee joint of the right leg. It was decided that the leg had to be amputated which was successfully performed by the surgical staff of the Santa Cruz Sanitarium.

Charles Titterington War Veteran Dies

Charles Titterington died last evening at the residence of his daughter Mrs. George Fitzgerald on Laurent St. with whom he made his home since the death of his wife.

Mr. Titterington was nearly four score years of age, having been born three months beyond his 79 years in Illinois where he resided until he came to Santa Cruz.

During the Civil War he enlisted and has always manifested a great interest in the GAR being a member of the Wallace Reynolds Post. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church.

He lived a quiet retired life here and was a worthy citizen of the community. Besides his daughter, Mrs. Grace Fitzgerald he leaves a son Thaddeus.

The Funeral of Chas. Titterington

The funeral of Charles Titterington was held yesterday afternoon, with services at the Chase undertaking parlors. It was attended by his many friends, especially by the old soldiers, members of Wallace Reynolds post, G.A.R. who participated in the services.

Rev. M.L. Laybourn of the Presbyterian church, officiated at the church rites and favorite hymns were sung.

The hymn "Not Unknown," was sung by Mrs. J.H. Willey and Harry Murray, and "Lead, Kindly Light" by Harry Murray, Miss Ruth Peakes was the organist.
