Santa Cruz Sentinel (October 6, 1907)
Wm Spencer, who died at Aptos Saturday, served in the 58th Ill. Vol., and was at Fort Donaldson and taken prisoner at Shiloh. He resided in this county for forty years and leaves one son, J.C. Spencer.
Santa Cruz Surf (October 8, 1907)
The funeral of the late William Spencer was held this morning from his late residence near Aptos, and thence to the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, where a requiem mass for the repose of his soul was celebrated by Rev. Father Fortier.
The deceased was 77 years of age, a native of Ireland, and leaves one son Joseph of Aptos.
He was an old and highly esteemed citizen of the county, an old soldier, a veteran of the Civil War, being a member of the 58th Illinois Volunteers.
