Santa Cruz Sentinel (December 7, 1922)Death Comes to Octogenarian
An octogenarian, H.M. Smith died yesterday at a local hospital after living many years in Santa Cruz.
Mr. Smith was 84 years of age, and previous to being taken to the hospital was remarkably active for a man of his age.
Born in New York, he came to California a few years after the close of the civil war. At the present time friends are trying locate some of his relatives before arraigning for the funeral. The deceased was a veteran of the Civil war.

DIED: SMITH - in Santa Cruz, Dec. 6 H.M. Smith aged 84 years, a native of New York.
Funeral of the deceased will be held Saturday at 2:30 o'clock P.M. from the Pacific Coast undertaking parlors. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend. Interment in Catholic cemetery.

Funeral services over J.M. Smith who died at the county hospital were held yesterday from the Pacific Coast undertaking parlors, where a number of friends gathered for the services.
The burial was at the Catholic cemetery.
