DIED: SEEVERS - In Watsonville, July 12 Charles William Seevers, native of Winchester VA, aged 84 years 8 months and 19 days.

Death of Father of Late Clay Seevers

Charles William Seevers, one of the pioneer residents of Watsonville, died at the family home, 211 Lincoln Sgt., at 11 o'clock Sunday morning, after a period of poor health, incident to his advanced age, he having attained the age of 84 years 8 months and 19 days, according to the Pajaronian, which adds:

The deceased was a native of Winchester, Va., having been born on Nov. 23, 1840. Mr. Seevers was a Confederate veteran, and served with Virginia's forces throughout the Civil War. He participated in the battles of Gettysburg, Antietam and other notable engagements.

Following the Civil War, he was engaged in merchandising in Washington, DC for a period of ten years, and came to Watsonville in 1876. Here he engaged in the general mercantile business, conducting a general store for many years. He also engaged in the same business, later in Fresno, but again returned to Watsonville to make his home.

He was married to Sarah McGowan, daughter of the late James McGowan, in 1881, and from this union there were four children, two of whom died in infancy.

The surviving relatives include the widow, Sarah Seevers; a daughter, Mrs. J.B. Gordon, of San Mateo. the other son was the late Attorney Clay W. Seevers who died last year. The deceased had resided in Watsonville for 50 years.
