At Rest

Mowry Sayles, aged 80 years, is at rest, his remains having been laid away in the Sayles plot, I.O.O.F. Cemetery of Santa Cruz, Thursday, the pallbearers being: W.H. Bias, S.H. Bailey, Duncan McPherson, Harry Cooper, C. Hoffman and L.L. Fargo.

Fifty years ago the deceased was at work in the Davis and Jordan Cooper shop, Mr. Bias having the coopering of the lime company under contract. When the Rebellion broke out Mr. Sayles enlisted under Capt. A. Brown, serving his country for three years. During his absence his family remained in Santa Cruz. In 1886 he moved to San Diego, which city remained his home to the end. Mrs. Sayles passed away years ago, but at the funeral Thursday was her daughter, her son and the son's daughter, the dead and alive representing four generations.

The funeral services were performed by H.E. Milnes of the M.E. Church, to which organization the deceased belonged during his long life.

So quiet and harmless was the deceased that those who knew him in the paths of peace can hardly realize that half a century ago he was drilling on Pacific Av., preparatory to going forth to fight for his country and our flag.
