F.M. Rowlee Dies at the Family Home in Watsonville

Francis Marion Rowlee died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Della Peterson, 37 Marchant street, this morning, following a brief illness.

Mr. Rowlee had attained the age of 85 years, 11 months and 15 days. He had resided in Watsonville for eighteen years, in Santa Cruz county twenty nine years, and in the State of California, fifty three years. He is survived by three children Charles A. Rowlee, of Redding, Calif; Mrs. Della Peterson and Mrs. George Tindall, of Watsonville. Also by ten grandchildren and two great grand children.

He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, having enlisted in 1861. He served with the 8th Ohio Regiment, and fought at Gettysburg in the thickest of the battle. He was a native of Lansing, Mich.

Mr. Rowlee was a gentleman of the old school, a fine upright man. He was a gallant soldier, and a most worthy citizen in every respect. We were greatly shocked at the news of his death, for he was a valued friend of the editor of the Pajaronian.

Arrangements have been made to hold the funeral services over the remains on Wednesday, May 13th at 2:00 o'clock p.m. from Burland's Chapel, with the interment at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at this place.
