Henry Poole Dies at Hospital

Henry Poole, for many years a resident of the county, died yesterday at a local hospital. He was a native of Illinois and 83 years of age.

The body is at Wessendorf and Son's undertaking parlors.

Tribute For Late J.E. Poole

In chronicling the death of J.E. Poole in this vicinity, the Pajaronian says:

There will be general regret around town today, especially from old-timers when they learn that J.E. Poole passed away at the county hospital yesterday.

A nice old gentleman was Mr. Poole, known familiarly to all as "Boxer" Poole. He lived here for many years, and was highly respected.

He was a brother of Duff Poole the Hollister printer and writer who was a contemporary of Les Baldwin, "Bob" Shaw, "Jim" Kearny, "Bob" Dooling and that merry coterie of careless and happy go lucky young fellows that made Hollister prominent years ago by their pranks.

Deceased spent the greater part of his life in San Francisco, in various occupations until the inroads of age compelled him to give up active pursuits, and he came down here to live. Finally his health became so poor, that it was found necessary for him to enter the county hospital where he could receive proper care.

"Boxer," in his heyday was a member of that grand old organization, the Volunteer Fireman of San Francisco. He took great pride in the rapidly disappearing punch of the fire ladies, that played a prominent part in San Francisco life in the '50s. He the remnant of that society to visit here with their "masheen" several time, for our Fourth of July celebrations.

For a long time he was a special police officer in the metropolis. He was a genial, unobtrusive, fine old man, and we are sorry to hear of his death.

Service For Late J.E. Poole

Funeral services over J.E. Poole were held from Wessendorf and Son's undertaking parlors yesterday with the Episcopal service read in the morning by Rev. Charles Leachman of Calvary church. The burial was in the afternoon at the Evergreen [IOOF] cemetery.
