DIED: PERRY - In Santa Cruz April 12th, Peter Pierce Perry, aged 71 years 1 month 15 days a native of England.

Sudden Death of P.P. Perry

Peter Pierce Perry, a prominent and highly esteemed citizen of this city, died suddenly Sunday evening at his home on Ocean View Av., and the end came as a shock to relatives and friends as he had been in good health Sunday and his wife had prepared an Easter dinner which he had greatly enjoyed. He retired in the evening at about 8 o'clock and at 10:20 awakened and complained of severe pains in his head. Dr. Bush was summoned but Mr. Perry had passed away in a few minutes. A hemorrhage of the brain was the result of his death.

Mr. Perry was a good man, a man well liked by a large circle of friends, and until he retired from business conducted a drug store on Soquel Av., the East side, which he sold to W.L. Johnson.

In 1895 Mr. Perry was married in Santa Rosa to Miss Rosa H. Ort, a sister of Otto V. Ort, formerly of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Perry in February 1896 came to Santa Cruz.

He was born in England seventy one years ago. When he first came to California 30 years ago, he spent some years in Humboldt county, where he practiced his profession of druggist.

He came to this country when a boy, resided in the New England States and later, with his parents went to Iowa. He enlisted with the Union forces when 18 years old and showed himself to be a staunch supporter of his adopted country by serving through the civil war.

Some years ago Mr. Perry was badly injured in a railroad accident in Colorado, the effects from which he never fully recovered.

He was a Knight Templar and a Shriner, a member of the order of Easter Star, a member of San Lorenzo lodge I.O.O.F. and a veteran of the civil war, belonging to Wallace Reynolds post, G.A.R.

Beside his wife, to whom is extended the sympathy of the community in her bereavement, Mr. Perry is survived by a brother, Charles Perry of Clay Center, KS.., and several sisters as follows: Mrs. Minnie Gill of Havelock, Iowa; Mrs. Elizabeth Everest of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Mrs. Nellie Thomas of Hunter Okla. He was a brother-in-law of O.V. Ort the former manager of the California Powder works here.

The funeral services will be held at the late residence Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
