Another Good Man Gone
Passing of George W. Newhall, an Aged Veteran
George W. Newhall, one of the best citizens of the community, died this morning at the family home on Walnut avenue, after a lingering illness.
He was a native of Vermont, and 69 years of age, and came to this city from that State almost twenty years ago. He stood as a citizen for all that was the very best, being a typical New Englander.
He resided for a number of years on Fairmont avenue and followed his trade that of a carpenter.
In politics he was a Democrat, and stood high in his party, taking an active interest in it and was honored by the party with the nomination of Supervisor.
He was an old soldier, and a member of Wallace-Reynolds Post G.A.R., having served in the civil war in Co. I of the Third Vermont Infantry.
In belief he was a Universalist, by affiliated with the Congregational church of this city, uniting with by letter.
He leaves a wife and two daughters (Mrs. Fitch of Oroville, and Mrs. Dora McKeegan of Oakland), and four sons (Carlyle of Felton, Oliver of Oakland, Pearl of Chicago, and Percy of South Africa).

The Funeral of G.W. Newhall
The funeral of the late George W. Newhall was held on Friday afternoon from the Congregational church, and was attended by a delegation of Wallace-Reynolds Post G.A.R. of which Mr. Newhall was a member.
Rev. A.W. Hare conducted the service and interment was at I.O.O.F. cemetery. Owing to the rain the G.A.R. service was omitted at the grave.
The pallbearers were: John F. Houck, Silas Swanton, W.V. Lucas, Charles Craghill, C. Bibbins, and J. Schroeder.
