Civil War Veteran Hears Call of "Taps"
Francis NEVENHUVSEN of This City Dropped Dead Late Saturday Afternoon at Home
Seized with a sudden attack of heart failure as he as in the act of dressing after having his bath, Francis Nevenhysen, the well known plasterer of this city, dropped dead late Saturday afternoon at his home, 136 Sudden street. The exertion caused by bathing and dressing and the heat in the room proved too strong for the aged gentleman and a few moments later his dead body was found lying upon the floor of the bathroom by several of his relatives.
The deceased was a native of Pennsylvania and was aged 76 years of age. When President Lincoln issued his famous call for volunteers to join the federal army against the confederates in the Civil war Mr. Nevenhuvsen enlisted and fought in several of the decisive battle of the civil war. About forty years ago and after the war he married a Pennsylvania girl and soon moved to California. Fifteen years ago the two settled in Watsonville where Mr. Nevenhuvsen built up a flourishing plastering business. He was a member of R.L. McCook Post, G.A.R. of this city and was regarded as a most estimable citizen in every particular. He leaves a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, who sincerely mourn his demise. He is survived by his wife and two daughters in this city, Mrs. Perry M. Andrews and Mrs. William Stanley.
