DIED: MORGAREIDGE- In Santa Cruz Feb. 4th Samuel Morgaridge aged 79 years, 11 mo. and 4 days. A native of Ohio.
S. Morgaridge Passes Away
Samuel Morgaridge, a native of OHIO, nearly 80 years old passed away at his home at 47 Cayuga St. Saturday afternoon after remaining in an unconscious state since Wednesday. He has resided in this city for 22 years. Surviving him are a wife, a son L.S. Morgaridge of San Jose, and a brother J.D. Morgaridge of this city.
Funeral of deceased will take place this Tuesday afternoon from CC Chase undertaking parlors on Walnut Av. at 2:30.

Funeral of an Old Soldier.
Tuesday afternoon the funeral of the late Samuel Morgaridge, an old civil war veteran, was held from the undertaking parlors of C.C. Chase. Rev. C.O. Tillotson conducting the services after the Episcopalian form. There was a large attendance of friends, especially of the old veterans. The pallbearers were Thomas Armstrong, J.E. Armstrong, George Ford, L.D. Fitzsimmons, C.L. Bibbins and W.T. Boyd.
Mr. Morgaridge, if he had lived until Memorial day, would have celebrated his eightieth birthday, the anniversary of his death occurring on a day held sacred by so many of the old soldiers, of which he was one, having served his country through the civil war.
Mr. Morgaridge was born in Warden county, Ohio, and at the age of 23 went west to Iowa. It was in Iowa during the civil war that he enlisted in the thirteenth Iowa infantry. IN 1859 he married Miss Maria A. Loss and he has been a devoted husband to a devoted wife through 55 years of married life. In 1874 they came to the coast and resided at different places, but in 1886 they settled in Santa Cruz and a number of years ago he built a cozy bungalow on Cayuga street, where they have since resided.
In earlier life the deceased was a lumberman, but later in life he has been engaged in the candy and barber business.
He leaves a wife, a son Russell of San Jose, and two brothers, J. Morgaridge of Santa Cruz and R. Morgaridge of South Dakota.
