Santa Cruz Sentinel (October 7, 1931)DIED- MEEDER- In Santa Cruz October 6, 1931, Benjamin F. Meeder, a native of New York, aged 91 years and 19 days.
Funeral services will be at Chase's mortuary Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Inurnment in the Santa Cruz mausoleum.
Civil War Vet Dies at Hospital
Benjamin F. Meeder, a Civil war veteran, died yesterday at a local hospital. His home has been at Seabright for 25 years.
He enlisted in an Illinois company at the start of the Civil war and re enlisted when he was mustered out of the army in 1863 to serve during its entire duration.
In 1906 he retired from business in the east and came to Santa Cruz with his wife, who died here 12 years ago. Since the death of his wife he made his home with a niece, Miss Mary H. Williams.
He was stricken with pneumonia on his 91st birthday, September 17, and walked to the hospital from his home, 38 Pilkington Lane to be placed under treatment of Dr. Norman R. Sullivan. His condition showed improvement until complications set in a week ago.
Surviving him are three brothers, D.A. Meeder of Portland, John Meeder of Chicago and Fred Meeder who is traveling about the world.
The body is at Chase's mortuary and services will be held Thursday afternoon and will be conducted by Rev. Norman Snow of Calvary church.

Veteran's Rites at Mortuary
Rev. Norman Snow of Calvary Episcopal church conducted the funeral services yesterday afternoon at the chapel of Chase' mortuary for Benjamin Meeder, Civil War veteran.
The hymns, "Saved by Grace" and "Sunset," were sung by Mrs. Abra Budworth with violin accompanist by Mrs. Kate Wells and pipe organ by Leslie Chase.
The inurnment was at the Santa Cruz crematory.
