Served in War from this Country

Seth Kirby, wife and daughter from Visalia are here visiting Mr. Kirby's niece, Mrs. SS Staples, on Riverside Av. Mr. Kirby came across the plains with his parents when quite a young lad and spent the early years of his life in the vicinity of Soquel. At the time of the Civil War Co. A of the 8th Infantry California Volunteers was raised in Santa Cruz county and Mr. Kirby is one of the members of that company who is still living.

After the close of the war he went to Tulare County where he engaged in farming and later in dairying. It is about twenty years since he last visited Santa Cruz and he remarked that he would not have known what city he was in on account of the many changes which have taken place since he was here last. Among other places he wished to know where the old Cooper store was and when shown, hardly recognized the location. He will spend a few days visiting relatives in this section.
