The Late John Kiff
The solemn services over the late John Kiff marked the departure of one more of the men who wiped out slavery and made a united people. He served during the Civil War in Company I of the 47 Regiment [OH Inf], and was carried by his comrades of the G.A.R.; whose numbers are daily lessening.
Mr. Kiff was born in the state of New York in 1832, and was 78 years of age. In 1888 he came to Stockton where he engaged in business and remained sixteen years. He came to Santa Cruz in 1904 and with his wife has had six years of well-earned res.
Mr. and Mrs. Kiff in 1906 kept the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage, a golden mark coming to but few and later moved to Scotts Valley where he died. The world can ill spare one of these honest and useful men who, after passing the age of activity, still serve as good examples.
