Old Soldier Dies at Yountville

William A. Jones, a character about Santa Cruz for many years, and an old soldier and Civil War veteran, died on May 12 at the Veterans home at Yountville, near Napa, a message having been received by Col. W.V. Lucas of Wallace Reynolds post G.A.R. to that effect.

Mr. Jones was in his 89th year and was born in Indiana. He served during the Civil War with the 29th Iowa regiment and was proud of his badge, which he always wore prominently.

He is remembered by many as the elderly man who invariable stood around the Salvation Army open airs. Mr. Jones resided on Pearl Street and leaves a wife and family.
