DIED: HOOPES- in Santa Cruz Feb 13, Silas Hoopes aged 89 years 5 months and 15 days. A native of Ohio.

Funeral of the deceased will take place Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at chapel of Chase's mortuary. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend. Interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Silas F. Hoopes Dies at 89 Years

Silas F. Hoopes who lacked six and a half months of reaching the age of 90 years, died yesterday at his home.

Mr. Hoopes was an unusually fine type of gentleman who had many friends, especially in the fraternal life of the city and among the old soldiers. He was born in Ohio in 1839 and his home has been in this city for 27 years.

He was a member of Wallace Reynolds Post, G.A.R. of the fast diminishing ranks of this organization of those who had served their country during the Civil War. He was a prominent member of Santa Cruz lodge of Masons and was affiliated with the various branches including the knights Templar. He was also a member of Santa Cruz lodge of Odd Fellows.

Mr. Hoopes was held in the highest esteem by all.

The deceased leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary J. Hoopes, three sons, W.S. Hoopes of Bellingham, Washington, C.M. Hoopes of Portland Oregon, and Frank Hoopes of Santa Cruz; a daughter, Mrs. Grace Robertson of Los Angeles, and two grandchildren, Charles and Marjorie Robertson of Los Angeles.

The funeral will not be held until Monday afternoon at the chapel of Chase's mortuary, owing to the waiting of the arrival of relatives.

Hoopes Rites Are Conducted

Funeral services for Silas F. Hoopes, 89 were held this afternoon at the Chase funeral chapel. The Odd Fellows were in charge of the chapel services and the Masons conducted the ceremony at the Odd Fellows' cemetery, where interment took place. The Knight Templar acted as escort and the Order of the Eastern Star were also present, together with the Santa Cruz members of the Grand Army of the Republic.

Mr. Hoopes, who passed away at his home at 30 Mountain View avenue last Wednesday, had lived in Santa Cruz for the past 27 years. He was born in Ohio in 1839.
