Frank Lambert Holway

F.L. Holway, who died in Santa Cruz Thursday, April 7th, after a long illness, was born in Machias, Maine, 1836. When twenty-one years of age he came to the Middle West and settled in Minnesota, in the vicinity of St. Paul. In his young manhood he became an earnest Christian, uniting first with the Jackson St. Congregational Church, St. Paul, and afterwards with the Methodist Church in Minneapolis. Six years ago failing health made it necessary for him to leave the rigorous climate of the Northwest and seek a home under milder skies.

Coming to California five years ago he and his family made their home in this city. Here, though entire strangers at the time of their arrival, they soon made many friends, and built for themselves a pleasant home on Soquel Av. Though not fully restored to health, Mr. Holway found this mild climate of great benefit. About a year ago he was attacked by the grip, which hastened consumption upon his impaired system, and he steadily declined in health until the time of his death.

Mr. Holway was an upright, sincere man, respected and beloved by all who knew him. Unselfish devotion to others and an unfailing readiness to oblige his friends and neighbors were marked traits in his character. The large attendance at his funeral and the many beautiful floral offerings showed the high esteem in which he was held by the community in which he lived the last five years of his life. His family feel very grateful for the kindness shown him and them during his long illness by their many friends, and for their presence sympathy and service at his funeral.
