Passing of a Good Man
Thomas Berryman Hildebrands, born in Junito county, Pa., July 2, 1842, died at his home near Felton, Nov. 26. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Emma Hildebrands, one son and four daughters, Frank G. Hildebrands, Mrs. Neta Schobel of Calaveras Co., Mrs. Blanch Miller of San Francisco, Mrs. Ella Merritt, San Francisco, and Mrs. Martha Edwards, Albice, Iowa. One grand son. Thomas E. Hennion of Los Angeles. Two sisters and three sisters also survive Mr. Hildebrands. He was a soldier in the Civil War of 49 Penn. Vol., serving under Major General Hancock. He served four years and six months. In 1897 he served two years in Alaska as land agent. Then came to California where he met his family in San Francisco, where he located until 1913, then came to Felton to reside, where they have remained. Mr. Hildebrands' body was shipped to Godeaus Undertaking Parlors at San Francisco, where it will lie in state till Friday, 2 o'clock p.m. The funeral services will be held by the F. and A.M. of which he is a member, then a military burial at the National Cemetery at the Presidio of San Francisco, Nov. 30. Mr. Hildebrands has lived near Felton for the past ten years and has endeared himself to this neighbors and friends who sympathize deeply with his sorrowing family.
He will be missed by the community in so many ways. He was always cheerful and had a good word for every one; honest, kind ever ready to assist a good cause and was always loyal to the Civil War comrades, and assisted many to secure pensions. Just one more good citizen taken from our midst who will be long remembered for his kind acts and patient and ever cheerful attitude.
