Death of William Hench
Veterans of the Civil War Closes Eyes at the Last Call "Taps"

William Hench, of Pajaro, whose death is chronicled in this issue, while not of long residence in the Pajaro valley, was a man whose integrity, kindness and genial disposition brought him many warm friends.

He was born in Miami Co., Ohio, May 7, 1834, and with his parents moved to Iowa Co., Iowa in 1842. It was there that his early life was spent. In 1861 he answered the call of his country and served as a private in Company G 7th Iowa Volunteers.

In 1866 he married Catherine L. Haverly who, with his six children survives him. He came to California in 1885 and settled near Suisun, in Solano county. From there he went to San Joaquin county and remained for some time, but about three years ago came to this valley and located near Pajaro, where he died. During his lifetime he was a devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal church.

Besides a widow the relatives surviving him are three daughters, Miss Ida M. Hench of Pajaro, Mrs. Carrie E. Fritz of Corralitos, Mrs. Etta L Curtis of San Francisco, three sons, John M., of Chicago, Will B., and George M., of this valley, and a sister Mrs. Mary Hale of Cedar Rapids Iowa.

The funeral will take place from the family home at Pajaro at 2:30 p.m. , Sunday, July 16th.
