DIED: HANLEY- In Santa Cruz May 5th James Hanley, a native of County Claire Ireland aged 77 years.

James Hanley, a Familiar Character on Cooper St. Passes Away
Old Jim Hanley, the familiar old landmark who has been seen on Cooper St. for the last twenty years lies dead at the County Hospital.
The old man has been living alone in a room adjoining Judge Skirm's offices on Front St., but last week he took sick and was unable to care for himself. Someone found him in a terrible condition from filth, and Dr. Morgan was notified, his removal to the hospital following. He lingered here a week and died on Sunday morning.
Hanley was born in County Clare, Ireland 78 years ago. He served in the Mexican War and in the U.S. Army in Virginia. So far as known, he has no living relatives in this country. His body will be laid away in the Catholic Cemetery, under the auspices of the G.A.R.
