G.A.R. Veteran Here Passed Away Today

John H. Hammer, a G.A.R. veteran for the past six months died early this morning at the home of his daughter Mattie R. Cox, 225 Locust street.

Mr. Hammer's death was the result of complications incidental to his advanced age of 82 years. He had been ill for some time past. He was a native of Tennessee.

The lateness of the hour of which we received the news of Mr. Hammer's death precluded us getting many details of his life. Reports speak very kindly of him as a fine old gentleman of engaging personality and manners.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Carrie Lenox of DeLand Florida, and Mrs. Martha R. Cox of Watsonville, and by two sons, A.T. Hammer of Des Moines, IA., and F.D. Hammer of Detroit Mich. He was a member of the G.A.R. Co. G. of the 7th Iowa troops.

Messrs. Aston & Neal will prepare the body for shipment Monday afternoon to Newton Iowa for interment.
