Henry Clay Fryer was born on May 21 1845 in Warren Co. Mississippi. He was enlisted as a private in the 27th Louisiana on April 30, 1862, at Galveston, Texas. He transferred to Company B, 3d Louisiana, on Jan 24, 1863, at Snyder's Bluff, Miss. Private Fryer was wounded in the Vicksburg rifle-pits on May 20, 1863 [his leg was amputated]. He surrendered and was paroled in July. His residence was listed as Moorehouse Par., La.

Watsonville Pajaronian (December 1, 1898)

H.C. Fryer was thrown from his wagon in a runaway on the beach road last Saturday, and one of the wheels passed over his body. He received severe injuries. The Drs. Rodgers have been in attendance.

H.C. Fryer, who was injured about two months ago while working on the roads, died in this city Tuesday morning. He was a member of the Louisiana Tigers and fought through the Civil War in the Confederate army. He was a native of Mississippi, aged 54 years 8 months and 10 days.
