Dies After an Operation
J.A. Foster Contracts Pneumonia and Dies in San Francisco Hospital

Joseph A. Foster, the brother of Mrs. E.H. Polhemus, died in San Francisco on Thursday where he entered Lane Hospital a week ago last Monday for an operation. The operation was successful and hopes were good for his immediate recovery, but last Sunday he was taken with a severe chill which developed into pneumonia.

The deceased was a native of Maryland, aged 73 years. He came to California about 24 years ago and has resided in this city for the past 16 years. He was a veteran of the Civil War and the old soldiers in this city will take part at the funeral services. The deceased leaves relatives in the East, but the only relative on this coast is his sister, who feels keenly his loss, death coming so unexpectedly.
