JOHN DELEHANTY was born in Ireland, May 24, 1840, and is by trade a shoemaker. Enlisted in Company H, 2d Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, May 10, 1861, for three months, and at the expiration of term, re enlisted in the same company and regiment for three years; served as a private, corporal, and orderly sergeant; belonged to the 1st Brigade, 4th Division, 14th Army Corps, Army of the Cumberland; took part in the battles of Gauley Bridge, W.Va., Shiloh, Stone River, Perryville, and Chickamauga; was wounded in right arm near shoulder at battle of Stone River; captured at Chickamauga, September 19 1863, and while a prisoner on the battlefield, received a saber cut in right leg between ankle and knee; was retained a prisoner for fourteen months, of which time he spent seven at Andersonville, where he was wounded in the right hand, being fired at by prison guard, was afterward removed to Millen GA; was in such a weak condition that he could not walk, but crawled on his hands and knees; from want of food was almost starved; paroled at Savannah, GA., November 20, 1864, and from there was sent to Parole Camp, at Annapolis Md., where he remained until February 16, 1865; mustered out of service at Louisville, Ky., March 2, 1865. Is a member and quartermaster sergeant of WHL Wallace Post, GAR at Santa Cruz, Cal, where he resides.

Where is John Delahanty? That is what his friends would like to know. Ten days ago he purchased a ticket for Watsonville, and has not been heard from since. It is not known here if he reached that place, or where he has gone to. Delahanty, who is an old soldier, has resided in this city for many years and is a shoemaker.

John Delahanty is now as the Soldiers' Home in Santa Monica where he is employed in the kitchen. John disappeared mysteriously from Santa Cruz about two weeks ago.

Soldiers' Home, May 26, 1913, Ed. "Sentinel"- At 4:25 A.M. John Delahanty, former citizen and shoemaker of Santa Cruz, died in Ward 12 of the Home hospital. The immediate cause of death was a severe attack of asthma with a touch of pneumonia. John was one of the old timers here and ran the shoe shop for 17 years. A severe attack of shingles on his face, from which he never fully recovered, sent him to the hospital years ago.

Later he ran the harness shop for some time. For the last few years he has not worked any. But a few days ago I met him sitting under the trees joking with his friends, and had a short conversation with him. He seemed well and in his usual good spirits.

Three days ago he was brought to the hospital and suddenly passed out. He was entered here in 1895 from gunshot wound in the right arm and general disability incurred while prisoner in Libby....... C.J. Todd

Funeral of John Delahanty

The funeral of John Delahanty, an old soldier, well known here, was held on Wednesday at Los Angeles from St. Agnes' church, where a requiem mass was said for the repose of his soul.

Mr. Delahanty was for many years a resident of Santa Cruz, where he was a shoemaker, and from here he went to the soldiers' home at Sawtelle, where he died. He was a member of the Second Kentucky Infantry, Company H during the war and leaves four daughters- Mrs. C.E. Kablitz and Emma and Sadie Delahanty of Los Angeles, and Mrs. M.J. Ferguson of San Jose, and a brother, Thomas Delahanty of San Jose.
