Late Henry Dean Veteran of the Civil War

The remains of the late Henry H. Dean are at the parlors of C.C. Chase, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 o'clock on Friday morning. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. The G.A.R. will attend the funeral in a body.

Henry H. Dean was born in Louisville, Ky., February 25, 1845. His boyhood was spent in Fairfield, Iowa, where he enlisted in the eighth Iowa Cavalry for service in the Civil War. The last nine months of his three years' service was a prisoner of war at Andersonville. He was married in 1875 to Kate Hammond. Of six children born to their union, three remain with the wife to mourn his loss. They are Mrs. J.P. McCuistion, Forsyth Mont.; H.R. Dean, Douglas Wyo.; and Vernon Dean of this city. He is also survived and mourned by three sisters and a brother in the eastern states.

Editor's Note: An additional article from the Sentinel on this date titled "Passing of Henry Dean" indicates that Dean lived in Idaho before coming to Santa Cruz, and that his son, Vernon Dean, was employed by Byrne Bros. in the store in Santa Cruz.
