Death of T. J. Clapp
President of the Building Trades Council Passes Away

Thomas Jefferson Clapp, who has been suffering from blood poisoning and la grippe, died this morning (Dec 3) at his home on Hanover street, after a short illness.

He was prominently identified with a number of organizations, being a charter member and class leader of the Pennsylvania Avenue Methodist Church, a leading member of the Carpenters' Union and Building Trades Council, a veteran of the Civil War and a member of the G.A.R. and a member of Tulare lodge and also of the Encampment, I.O.O.F.

He was a native of Iowa. He is 64 years of age, and leaves one son, William, and two daughters, Fannie and Emma.

The body will be shipped to Lodi for internment, but the funeral services are to be held tomorrow afternoon at half past two from Pennsylvania M.E. Church.

Editor's Note: A similar aarticle from the Santa Cruz Sentinel of the same date indicates that Clapp's recent illness affected his ongoing heart trouble, subsequently causing his death. Clapp was noted to have been a foreman for Geo. Curtis and also for W.J. Keating just before his death, and that he had come to Santa Cruz 20 years earlier and had resided there off and on since. The article also indicated that he was a member of the Knights of Pythias, and that his wife was already interred at Lodi.
