DIED: BLACKBURN- In Santa Cruz March 4th Harry, A.W. Blackburn a native of Nova Scotia Aged 63 yr. 11 mo.

Death of Good Old Soldier

Another old soldier answered the roll call Friday morning in the person of H.A.W. Blackburn, who lives with his wife on the Capitola Road. The cause of death was Brights' disease. The deceased was a native of Nova Scotia, aged 63 years, and leaves two sisters living in Mendocino Co.

Mr. Blackburn came here about six years ago and settled at Garfield Park, where he soon had the finest vegetable and berry patch in that vicinity. His business increased and three years ago he sought larger holdings on the Capitola Road which soon, by careful cultivation, became a beauty spot. Here he raised small garden truck and berries, and by his honest dealings and conscientious spirit he won a host of friends in this city.

Although born across the borderline the deceased became a through and loyal American and fought for his adopted country in the Civil War. He delighted to mingle and associate with the old warriors and to talk over old war stories. He was a member of Wallace-Reynolds Post, G.A.R. and at one time was its commander.

Mr. Blackburn before coming here spent ten years in Mexico and also lived in Tennessee and Georgia after the war. He was a regular attendant at All Souls' Unitarian Church.
