Death of Dr. Arnold: Passed Away Friday at Felton
Well Known Here - Held Many Positions in Various Parts of the State

Word was received in this city yesterday of the death of Dr. Thorpe Arnold, a former resident of this city, at Felton, Santa Cruz county, on Friday, of pneumonia, at the home of John Robertin. He had been sick for five days.

Dr. Arnold came to the Pacific Coast in the late seventies, landing in Marysville, where he engaged in the practice of his profession. He served two terms as justice of the peace at Marysville and became prominent in Republican politics. Dr. Arnold then moved to Eureka, Humboldt County, and then to Santa Cruz where he resided until domestic troubles caused him to move to Alameda County. For a time he was connected as physician with the County Infirmary. Following this he was third assistant physician at the Veterans Home at Yountville, where he stayed several years.

In 1902 Dr. Arnold came to Monterey and resided here ever since, making his home with A.R. Underwood. He served as superintendent of streets and health officer and ran for city trustee, being defeated by Charles White by a small margin. When J.B.R. Cooper was assemblyman, Arnold was an engrossing clerk of the legislature.

In July last, owing to ill health, Dr. Arnold took a trip to South Carolina but did not stay very long.

The deceased was 65 years and a native of Kentucky. He served all through the Civil War. He leaves a sister, Mrs. Annie Primley, residing in San Jose, and a brother in the East. Dr. Arnold was buried at Felton.
