Pet owners sound off on proposed count microchip law

A meeting between Animal Shelter General Manager Melanie Sobel and members of the community was held to discuss the benefits of placing a microchip into your pet so they can be identified if lost. Sobel said about 20% of pets turned into the shelter have to be put down because the owner cannot be identified. The chips are not harmful and there is no intent to track and intervene with owners. Members of the audience expressed skepticism and said they were worried about the chips causing cancer or being too invasive for their pets.
