Putting out the light

Article reports on the dismantling of a 50-foot temporary lighthouse sculpture in downtown Santa Cruz. Built in April 1991 by artist Robert Catalusci with $20,000 in donations, the structure was intended to draw people downtown after the Loma Prieta earthquake. Community members and officials offered mixed reviews, with some calling it creative and others wasteful.
