Community helps keep libraries vital, working behind the scenes, between the lines
Volunteers are typically given more routine jobs and positions so that they are not relied on too much by patrons or staff.
- The libraries are lacking in the "Book Buddy" program, where volunteers visit patrons who are unable to go to a library. They bring them books and share their time and their interest in reading with them.
- Despite the large number of hours worked by volunteers, this number has actually decreased significantly in the last six years.
- Images of volunteers Anne Rupert and Donnella Bloebaum are included in the article.
