Article describes five new skate parks in various planning stages in Aptos, Ben Lomond, Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, and Watsonville. Themes include: fundraising to build the skate parks, the growing popularity of skateboarding, a boom in skate park development since state law reduced the municipal liability for skateboarding injuries, and opposition to the planned skate parks. Seven photos (four by Bill Lovejoy) depict skateboarders, a skate shop owner, and a resident opposed to a plans for a new skate park.
