Rain abates; slides don't
Heavy rains have ended, yet homes continue to be in danger of landslides. The Hubbard Gulch and Eureka Canyon areas are discussed. Numerous homes are damaged in both areas, and there are current threats, including the stability of slides and log jams in creeks. Residents closest to the Boulder Brook slide are not yet allowed to return to their homes, though residents further removed are. U.S. Rep. Leon Panetta has visited lower Eureka Canyon and requested a disaster declaration for Santa Cruz County from President Ronald Reagan. Damage to the county is approximately $10 million.
