Biographies of military personnel from Santa Cruz County.
The majority of this collection is compiled from the work of local researcher Robert L. Nelson. The information is taken from his two books, "Old Soldier: the story of the Grand Army of the Republic in Santa Cruz County" and "Remembering Our Own" the Santa Cruz County military roll of honor 1861-2010."
For more information about this collection see the <a href="/omeka/about-the-remembering-our-own-collection">About page "Remembering Our Own</a>."<br /><br />Copies of "Remembering Our Own" are available through the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History.
Also included in this collection are video recordings of interviews with American war veterans. These interviews were conducted as part of the Library of Congress Veterans History Project.

<p><a href="/omeka/about-the-remembering-our-own-collection">More information about this collection...</a></p><b>Santa Cruz Sentinel (July 11, 1928)</b> <div class="floatRight"><div class="alignCenter"><b>William W Whipple<br />IOOF Cemetery in Santa Cruz</b></div></div> <p>DIED: WHIPPLE- In Santa Cruz, July 10, 1928, William Wallace Whipple, aged 90 years, 8 months, 23 days, native of Pennsylvania.</p> <p class="special">Civil War Veteran Dies Last Night.</p> <p>William Wallace Whipple, an old soldier and veteran of the Civil War and a member of the Wallace Reynolds Post G.A.R. died last night at the age of 90 years at 110 Wilkes Circle. He was a native of Pennsylvania.</p> <p>Funeral service will be held at the Chase mortuary, Friday, at 2 p.m. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend. Remains will be shipped to Mt. Olivet for cremation.</p> <div class="clear"></div> <p class="lightBlueBgPadded"><b>Santa Cruz Sentinel (July 14, 1928)</b></p> <p class="special">Last Rites for Wm. W. Whipple</p> <p>Funeral services for William Wallace Whipple were held yesterday at the chapel of Chase's mortuary.</p> <p>The services were conducted by Wallace Reynolds post G.A.R. and the Rev. Joseph G.
