In October 1951 the 35th Infantry was pulled off the line for rest and training that lasted until 7 November 1951 when the 35th moved back to the front line. Fisher was the husband of Mrs. Consuelo Fisher who formerly lived at 3 Linscott court, Alexander Street. Fisher was trained as a light weapons infantryman and assigned to the 35th Infantry Regiment of the 25th Infantry Division serving in Korea. In June 1952, Fisher's unit was serving at an area in Korea referred to as the Punchbowl. \r\n\r\n“By June Communist guns were hurling over 6,800 shells a day at UN positions. During particularly hotly contested actions, Communist gunners occasionally fired as many as 24,000 rounds a day. UN artillerists repaid the compliment five, ten, and sometimes even twenty-fold, and still not a day went by when Communist and UN soldiers did not clash somewhere along the front line. Then on 15 June 1952, the 35th Infantry Regiment relieved the 27th Regiment from their responsibility of the line. All through the remainder of the month, the 35th \"Cacti\" Regiment conducted raids on enemy positions in the hope of capturing prisoners of war in order to identify units in contact.”\r\n\r\nDuring this action at the Punchbowl, Corporal Ralph George Fisher was seriously wounded, evacuated and treated, but succumbed from those wounds on June 23, 1952. Pierce was born in St. Clair County, Illinois, in 1916, and spent most of his early life in that state. He entered the University of Illinois about 1935 and graduated about 1939. While in college, he was probably an ROTC cadet, as he was commissioned a second lieutenant in artillery upon his graduation. \r\n\r\nOrville was stationed with the 74th Field Artillery at Fort Ord, California in 1940 and became one of the designers of Stilwell Hall. Following World War II, he returned to Fort Ord and Watsonville became home to the Pierce family. \r\n\r\nIn 1950 Major Pierce was sent to Korea to serve as a battery commander of the 503rd Artillery of the 2nd Infantry Division. His family remained in the Pajaro Valley. Upon arrival in Korea, his unit was assigned to the defense of the Pusan perimeter. Following the invasion at Inchon and the subsequent withdrawal of the North Korean Army, his battalion was in the vanguard as US forces made their way to the Yalu River. \r\n\r\nOn November 30, 1950, the Chinese communist army attacked UN forces with overwhelming force and Major Pierce's battalion was ordered to retreat. The 503rd FA Battalion was assigned to the high ground near Kunu-ri Anju- Sinanju Road to support the retreating division. On December 1, the 503rd FA Battalion was cut off from the division several miles behind enemy lines near Ch'ongnyongch'am. They were surrounded, attacked from all sides and Major Pierce was forced to surrender. \r\n\r\nOn August 16, 1953, Mrs. Pierce was informed that her husband, Orville, had died on April 2, 1951, while a prisoner of war. For his service during the perimeter defense, breakout and the invasion of North, Korea Musick was awarded the Bronze Star. \r\n\r\nWhen his division advanced into North Korea in the fall of 1950 and reached a point eighteen miles from the Yalu River, they came under heavy attack by the Chinese Army. Over the next two months Musick's regiment was forced to withdraw to the south. On February 6, 1951, his company found itself fighting in the Chonyang area of South Korea. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy I. Richards, lived in the Green Valley sector of the Pajaro Valley before moving to Los Gatos. The Richards family also included two daughters, Joan and Edie. Norman grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and before the war, lived in Berkeley and attended the University of California for a year. \r\n\r\nOn November 5, 1942, Richards entered the US Army as a private and was assigned to the Army Air Force. He was accepted into its aviation cadet program and at its conclusion was commissioned and assigned to a bomber squadron in Europe. When a plane he was piloting over Vienna exploded, Lt. Richards fell several thousand feet without a parachute and after landing in a tree, received only minor injuries. Subsequently he was captured and spent sixteen months in a German POW camp. \r\n\r\nFollowing World War II, Richards returned to California and settled in the Pajaro Valley community of Corralitos. Norman married Betty and the couple had a son, Warren, prior to their divorce. After Betty and Warren moved to Palo Alto, he remained in the Pajaro Valley working as the appliance department manager for Freiermuth Hardware and Plumbing. Later he operated the Coffee Cup Restaurant at the Town and Country shopping center in Watsonville. While living in Corralitos, he was the local grange master, active in the Baptist Church and a member of the Country Cousins Folk Dance Club. \r\n\r\nWhen the Korean War started, Norman Richards was recalled to active duty and assigned to the 43rd Air Refueling Squadron stationed at Davis Monthan AFB near Tucson, Arizona.
