Train at the Southern Pacific depot in Brookdale. The town was laid out in 1900 by Judge Logan and originally called Clear Creek. When the post office was established in 1902, the name was changed to Brookdale.

South Pacific Coast Railroad depot at Laurel in the Santa Cruz Mountains. With a distance of 64.3 miles to San Francisco, Laurel Mill supplied much of the lumber to rebuild the San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake.
