Born in Stockett, Montana on May 15, 1924, Steve Glovna enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. After competing the training at Farragut Navy Training Station in Idaho, Glovna worked as a 3rd Class Sonarman aboard the naval destroyer, the USS Balch (DD-363). He served in the Pacific Islands at Guadalcanal and in the Atlantic from the East Coast to North Africa. After WWII, Glovna was able to get a four-year degree at the California College for the Arts in Oakland through the GI Bill. He worked in automotive industry in the South Bend, Indiana, before relocating to Santa Cruz with his wife and pursing work as an artist.
