\nSanta Cruz Sentinel (September 5, 1893)\nRev. C. H. Darling has finished his conference years as Methodist Pastor at Soquel. He started the church 2 years ago without a member. In that time he has received by letter 36 and on probation 47 members. The church now stands at 44 members. The church property is valued at $1,500. The Rev. gentleman has done well. Will he be returned? The conference alone can answer the question.
\nSanta Cruz Sentinel (September 18, 1893)
\nWednesday evening the home of Rev. C.H. Darling was filled with his many friends who surprised him for the last time as he and his family leave Soquel for a new field of duty in the future. That he is quite popular and has many friends here was shown by the gathering which came to say goodbye to the devoted pastor who for two years has so effectively attended their spiritual wants, and by many acts endeared him to the good people of Soquel. Among other tokens of esteem presented to him was a beautiful horse, a gift of S.F. Grover.

Chaplain of Senate Invokes Aid of Heaven Against the Newspapers
Sacramento- There is no such thing as squelching Chaplain Darling (once of Soquel) of the Senate. Having made his name a household word as the man to quote a now-current phrase, \"who denies his Lord for $4 a day\", he has taken up the cudgel on behalf of the members of the Senate and the Assembly, now smarting under the criticisms of the press.
\nHe prayed for every senator but Carminetti, asking heaven to cast a protecting shadow over those members whose reputations were being assailed by the newspapers.
\nEditorial Notes from Robert L. Nelson
\nCassius H Darling, the brother of William Richardson Darling, was born approximately 1844 in Massachusetts and was the son of an Army officer. On August 10, 1862 he joined Company K of the 46th Massachusetts Infantry and remained with that unit as a private until June 1, 1863 when he re-enlisted in Company K of the 2nd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. Following the war he became a Methodist Minister. In Approximately 1891 he and his family moved to Soquel where he began a Mission Congregation. He became active in the Reynolds Post of the Grand Army of the Republic and served one year as their Chaplain. During Memorial Day events in Soquel he is frequently mentioned as being the main speaker or for the prayers which he would offer. In 1893 the Methodist Church moved him to (I think) Amador City California.
