Barry was born in Minneapolis Minnesota on February 1, 1947. His mother's name was Elaine. His early years were spent with his brother William and sisters Benita and Cynthia in Minnesota before moving to Soquel, California, in 1954. His mother remarried a Mr. Kelliher and her new husband brought his son Charles into their family. During his early years, Daniel attended local grammar schools and became active in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Capitola. In 1965 he graduated from Soquel High School and was employed locally. \r\n\r\nIn November 1967 Daniel Barry entered the US Army. His basic training location is not known; however, his advanced individual training likely took place at Fort Knox, Kentucky. At the conclusion of his training he was assigned to I troop, 3rd Squadron, of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. At the time that Barry joined his squadron, they were stationed at Kaiserlautern, Germany, and were patrolling the German border of the Iron Curtain to curtail anticipated Soviet action. \r\n\r\nIn July 1968, the 3rd ACR Regiment was redeployed to the United States and assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington. While his unit was preparing for potential re-deployment to Germany, Daniel Barry was promoted to Sergeant. On July 14, 1969, Daniel J.
