Santa Cruz Sentinel (May 1, 1923)DIED: YOUNG - In Santa Cruz, April 30, Amos S. Young of Soquel, aged 86 years, 7 Months 20 days, a native of New York.
Funeral of the deceased will be held from Wessendorf & Son undertaking parlors today at 2 P.M. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend. Interment in I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Death From Shock Following An Accident
The coroner's inquest was held yesterday at Wessendorf & Sons undertaking parlors over the late Amos L. Young by the coroner Dr. W.R. Congdon. The verdict was death from shock following injuries.
On the jury were C.W. Horstman, J.B. Whittaker, G. Brown, O.D. Harkins, H.C. Morse, and Thomas Coulson.
John Hewlett testified that he last saw him alive on April 28th. That he brought Young to town with some eggs. On the way back on the other side of the Arana gulch, some one ahead kept going off the road, just beyond Paul Minnie avenue.
That he decided to pass him and when he slowed it was right in front of the Hewlett car. That he tried to stop, but the car tipped over in the ditch.
Mr. Young was injured and a half dozen men came along, picked him up and took him to the road then to the hospital. The man who caused the trouble went to the sanitarium with Mr. Young.
Dr. W.E. Fehliman testified that Mr. Young had cuts and bruises over the body. The right collarbone and several ribs on the side were broken. The right hip and the left wrist were broken. He was in great pain and could hardly be moved and he could take nothing in his mouth but water at times. He never came out of the shock and died April 30, about 6 o'clock. Shock following injuries caused his death.
Frank Young identified the body of his father, and stated that he was in good health for a man of his years.

Old Soldiers at Funeral
Funeral services over the late Amos Young, who died as a result of injuries were held yesterday afternoon from Wessendorf & Sons undertaking parlors and were attended by the G.A.R. and Odd Fellows.
At the undertaking parlors Wallace-Reynolds post G.A.R. was in charge of the services and at the Soquel cemetery the Soquel lodge of Odd Fellows were in charge. The officers reading the burial services of the order.
